DAY 14
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Daniel 7:14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
Consider:
Daniel 7 records a hope-filled vision given during the bleak years of Babylonian captivity. It is a vision of one like a son of man, who is also called the Most High, who has complete authority forever, ruling an everlasting and glorious kingdom made up of all nations. His kingdom is the only forever kingdom, and it puts an end to all others. From the background context of messianic promises, we know that his kingdom is one of peace and justice and righteousness. Jesus, as he gives the Great Commission recorded in Matthew 28, launches this kingdom to the ends of the earth as the resurrected victorious Savior. Jesus is this prophesied Son of Man, and all authority is his! Our participation in making disciples of all nations happens inside the authority of Christ and happens with the backdrop of these eternal kingdom promises.
Point to Ponder and for Prayer:
One of the highest privileges of being in Christ is being allowed to participate in his gathering of people from all nations to himself in prayer. The results of this ingathering will be enjoyed by the nations (including us) and by Christ forever.
