DAY 11
Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
Amos 8:9 “And on that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.
Consider:
The sin of the entire world was being paid for during these three dark hours as Jesus the Christ hung on a tree. Past, present, and future sin of mankind was placed on the God-man, Jesus Christ. The sun that was created by Christ, for Christ, and through Christ now retreats as the sinless Creator pays the sin-debt for his creation. Matthew records that darkness covered the land from the sixth hour to the ninth hour (noon to three p.m.). Though it is uncertain if the darkness was over the entire earth or over the surrounding region, it is clear that the sin-cursed creation reflected its own de-creation and undoing in response to the Father’s displeasure against man’s sin.
Point to Ponder and for Prayer:
In Romans 8:19-21, Paul reminds us that creation itself waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God because then creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption to obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Because of Jesus’ death for sin and resurrection, a day is coming for a new creation with a new heavens and a new earth where night will be no more, where no light of lamp or sun will be needed because the Lord God will be the light for his servants (Rev. 22:5).
